ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 3, 2011) – The Men's Basketball team defeated the RIT Tigers 72-63 in a Wendy's College Classic consolation game this afternoon.
The win ended the Raiders seven game losing streak.
The Raiders jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but the Tigers climbed back to tie the game at 14-14 with 11:30 left in the first half. Thirty seconds later, Justin Heisig hit a three to give the visitors a 17-14 lead.
Alif Bland would give the Raiders an 18-17 lead with seven minutes to go before picking up his third foul, forcing Bland to sit out the rest of the half.
The Tigers would go on a 7 to 1 scoring run to make it a 24-19 Tiger lead with six minutes left in the half.
The Tigers would go into the locker room with a 34-28 halftime lead.
At the half, Heisig led all scorers with 12 points after hitting two from beyond the arc. For the Raiders, Bland led with eight points, two rebounds, and one block.
In the second half,
Mike Stone hit his first three of the game to lift the Raiders to a 46-42 lead with 12:16 to play.
The Tigers would regain the lead until
Dylan Gratch hit a three to tie the game at 51-51 with 7:45 left.
The Raiders went on a run, capped off by a two consecutive dunks by
William Kemp-Harris to take a 61-55 with less than four minutes left in the game.
Patrick Downer scored six straight points to extend the Raiders lead to make it 67-60 with 1:11 left.
The Raiders would hit their free-throws in the final minute to finalize the outcome, winning 72-63.
Kemp-Harris led all scorers with 21 points (7 of 13) and grabbed seven rebounds. Bland scored 14 points for the Raiders.
As a team, the Raiders shot 50% from the floor and went 59% from the free-throw line.
The win improves the Raiders record to 3-7.
The team is back in action this Wednesday in their true home opener against local rivals Nazareth College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
