HENRIETTA, N.Y. (December 3, 2011) – The Women's Basketball team lost 56-44 to the University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the Wendy's College Classic final this evening at RIT's Clark Gymnasium.
The Raiders were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, shooting only 29% from the field. Danielle McNabb led the Rochester to their ninth Wendy's College Classic title and seventh consecutive.
The Yellowjackets jumped out early after Jackie Walker drained a three from the corner to give the defending champions a 19-11 lead with 10:40 to play in the first half.
Rochester would extend the lead to 31-18 when Jodie Luther scored six unanswered with 4:18 to go.
Danielle McNabb hit a jumper with six seconds left in the half to make it a 37-20 lead for Rochester.
At the half, Walker led all scorers with 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
Bianca Jones led the Raiders with six points and six rebounds. The Raiders shot 30% from the field in the half.
Coming out of the break, the Raiders went on a 10-0 run to cut the Yellowjackets lead to 37-30.
Marissa Bunce would hit a three for the Raiders as the shot clock expired with 8:02 left to cut the lead to two points, making it a 42-40 Yellowjacket lead.
Bianca Jones then tied the game on a lay-up a minute later to draw the Raiders even at 42-42.
The Yellowjackets would start to pull away, taking a 12 point lead with 1:30 left in the game off a lay-up by McNabb.
Rochester would hold on for the victory, wining 56-44.
Bianca Jones paced the Raiders with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jones earned the double-double after missing the last two games due to injury.
The Raiders were outrebounded 46 to 37. Rochester won the turnover ratio 20 to 17.
Lindsay Kendall and Bunce earned First Team honors for the Raiders.
McNabb led all scorers with 15 points.
The loss puts the Raiders at 6-3 on the season.
The Raiders travel to Canton, Ohio to play Malone University next Friday at 7pm.
