Roberts Defeats Wilberforce, Heads to AMC Playoffs

Roberts Wesleyan successfully closed out the regular season with an 85-74 victory at Wilberforce Saturday afternoon to finish 12-6 in the American Mideast Conference and third place overall. As a result, Roberts will be hosting Malone University on Tuesday night at the Voller Athletic Center for a 7:00 start. Tickets will cost $6 per person as designated by the American Mideast Conference. Roberts will be hosting Malone due to the fact that Malone dropped their last two games of the season to Cedarville at home and Mt Vernon Nazarene on the road. In the other AMC playoff contest on Tuesday night, Point Park will be travelling to Cedarville to take on the Yellow Jackets. Point Park erased a 24 point first half deficit to stun Daemen on Saturday afternoon and slide into the final playoff spot. Walsh, the AMC regular season Conference Champion and #2 in the country, will host the final game of the tournament as they receive a bye through to the championship game.  Walsh suffered their only loss of the year to the Raiders at the Voller Athletic Center on February 12.

Roberts doubled up on Wilberforce in the first half jumping out to a 22 point lead at intermission. The lead grew to 30 and the Raiders closed out the Bulldogs with the 85-74 victory.

Alif Bland led six Raiders in double figure scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Justin Andreozzi and Jake Russell each finished with 12 points, Herb Alexander scored 11, and Will Kemp-Harris and Patrick Downer each contributed 10 points.

Wilberforce was led by Tim Giles who got hot late and finished with 26 points hitting on 8 of 20 three point shot attempts.

The Raiders who at one point in the season were 1-5 in the conference and 7-10 overall have since pieced together an impressive streak to finish the regular season winning nine in a row and 11 out of their last twelve games.
