ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 2, 2011) – The Women's Soccer team won their home opener 3-0 against the visiting Bethel College Pilots. The Raiders saw three different goal scorers in the game.
Danielle Berhndt earned a yellow in the 14th minute with a hard tackle on Alison Kendall.
The Pilots pressured the Raiders defense for most of the first half, but were unable to break through. Bethel could only muster two good shots in the half.
Even with Bethel's offense running at full speed, the Raiders had the better looks of the half. In the 21st, Kendall blasted a long shot from 15-yards out on the left side just over the right side of the cross bar. A minute later Mandi Hochheimer's was in free space on the left, but her shot was tipped out of play by Bethel's goalkeeper Kayt Coulter.
The Pilots has a good chance when Nicole Steller put a shot on frame, but couldn't shake the Raider's goalkeeper Brianna Maggio in the 42nd minute.
In the 44th minute, Vanessa Sell blasted home a goal in the right side from 20-yards outto give the Raiders a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
At the start of the second half, the Pilots gave the Raiders defense more fits when Pua Hall fed a through ball to Steller. Her shot was on frame, but Maggio was there to make the save.
Erika Lukde had a shot in the 49th minute that glanced just right of the goal, but two minutes later Mandi Hochheimer's was able to find the back of the net off a pass from Jackie Corbett to put the Raiders up 2-0.
Ambre Kuzma added the third goal of the night for the Raiders with a chip-in shot inside the 6-yard box in the 66th minute.
The Raiders continued to surge in the last ten minutes when Luedke's shot screamed past the top right corner of the frame.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 2-1-0 on the arly season.
The Raiders are back in action Saturday afternoon at 2pm when they host Huntington University.
