ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 24, 2011) – The Women's Soccer team fell 4-1 to #14 Houghton College this afternoon during Homecoming festivities.
The Highlanders scored first in the 33rd minute when Rachel Cross sent a curling shot from the left side 12-yards out, sending it to the upper right corner past Raiders goalkeeper Brianna Maggio.
The Raiders best chance to equalize came in the 49th minutes when Erika Luedke blasted a shot at goal when the Highlanders goalkeeper Suzie Black deflected the shot wide. Mandi Hochheimer was there for the rebound, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
The Highlanders went up 2-0 in the 64th minute when Jen Hudson scored a goal inside the 6-yard box off a Rachel Cross free kick from just outside the 18-yard box on the left side.
Hudson added to the Highlanders lead in the 75th minute when she knocked in a rebound to make the score 3-0.
Atalie Fite added the fourth goal for the Highlanders in 78th minute with a grounder from 5-yards out on the left side.
The Raiders got one back when Alison Kendall was brought down in the 18-yard box to draw a penalty kick for the Raiders in the 85th minute. Vanessa Sell took the kick and put it past Suzie Black with ease.
The lone goal was all the Raiders could muster in the game. The Raiders are now 5-4, with all four losses coming to teams in the NAIA Top 25.
The team is back in action on next Saturday when the Raiders host Walsh University at 3pm.
