Raiders Upset Falls Short, Lose to Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (January 14, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team was unable to upset the Walsh University Cavaliers on the road this afternoon, falling 68-53.

The Raiders put up a valiant effort, taking an eight point lead early on when Alif Bland hit a jump shot to give the Raiders an early 14-6 lead nine minutes into the first half. The Raiders went into halftime trailing the Cavalier by a point, 30-29.

The Cavaliers pulled away for good when Ryan Vanderhorst hit a three-pointer with 12:00 left to play, giving the home team a 41-39 lead.

Patrick Downer led the Raiders with 17 points, shooting just under 50% from the field. Downer went 7 of 15 from the floor and hit 1 of 4 from three-point range.

Bland added 16 points for the Raiders and had two blocks in the game.

Ryan Burrell led the Cavaliers with 17 points after going 5 of 11 from the field and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line.

The loss puts the Raiders at 4-13 overall and 1-2 in the American Mideast Conference.

The Raiders are off until next Saturday when the team hosts Point Park University at 4pm. The game is a part of a doubleheader with the Women's team hosting Point Park at 2pm.
