Pioneers Down Raiders 57-39

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 21, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team lost to the Point Park Pioneers 57-39 this afternoon at the Voller Athletic Center.
 
The Raiders struggled to break down the Pioneer defense which is one of the top defenses in the nation.
 
Starting out, both teams used a full court to pressure each teams offense effectively. Halfway through the first half, both teams were shooting under 30%.
 
With 10 minutes to go in the first half, the Pioneers led 13-10.
 
The first half was close the rest of the way with the visitors taking a 20-19 lead into the locker room. 
 
Bianca Jones stuffed the stat sheet in the first half with seven points and 10 rebounds.  As a team, the Raiders out-rebounded the Pioneers 32 to 19 in the first stanza.
 
The Pioneers would come out of the break quickly, going on a 7-2 run to take a 27-21 lead.
 
With 7:39 left, the Raiders would trail 42-33 after Marissa Bunce drove to the hole and made a lay-up.
 
Down the stretch, the Raiders would trail by double-digits as the Pioneers controlled the tempo of the game.    
 
The Pioneers would pull away to secure the victory, giving them their fifth conference win of the season.
 
Emily Schartner led all scorers with 19 points for the Pioneers after shooting 50% for the day.
 
For the Raiders, Jones led the team with 7 points and 10 rebounds. Marissa Sell had a team high 8 points.
 
The loss puts the Raiders at 12-8 overall and 2-3 in the American Mideast Conference.
 
The team is back in action this Thursday when they host rivals Houghton College at 6pm.
