Raiders Hold On, Defeats Point Park

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 21, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team earned a hard fought 79-69 win against the visiting Point Park Pioneers.
 
Coming into the game, the Raiders knew they would have their hands full as the Pioneers offense averageds 92 points per game.
 
It was an up and down game in the first half as the Raiders led for most of the half behind 10 points from Patrick Downer.
 
To start the second half, the Raiders went on a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 51-29.
 
The Raiders were able to slow the Pioneer offense in the second half as the home team maintained a double-digit lead for most of the half.
 
With 4:06 left, Josh Pohlt hit a pair of free-throws for the Pioneers to cut the Raiders lead to just 68-60. A minute later, Asa Braxton made two more form the charity stripe to make it 68-62.
 
The Pioneers continued to cut into the lead when Jimmy Taylor hit a trey with 2:56 left, making it a 69-65 Raiders lead.
 
With a minute remaining, Alif Bland hit a finger roll bucket to lift the Raiders to a 73-69 lead.
 
The Raiders would hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
 
Five Raiders scored in double-digits, led by Downer's 17 points. Dominique Williams put up 16 points for the home team.
 
Both teams hauled in 45 rebounds, but the Raiders had the edge on the offensive boards 18 to 15.
 
The Pioneers' TJ Heatherington led all scorers with 27 points.
 
The win gives the Raiders their third two-game winning streak of the season, improving their record to 6-13 overall and 2-2 in the American Mideast Conference.
 
The Raiders are back in action this Thursday at 8pm when they host Houghton College.
