Stone Hits Three, Raiders Win a Thriller

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 26, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team won 58-55 in a thrilling rivalry game against the visiting Houghton College Highlanders.
 
The Raiders have now won a season best three straight games.
 
The first half saw a quick pace, as the game was close with Houghton going into the locker room with a 25-24 lead.
 
Houghton's Michael Munoz led all scorers in the half with 12 points after shooting 50% from the field.
 
The Raiders gained their first lead of the game after Alif Bland hit two free throws with 7:49 left to make it 45-44.
 
With 2:22 left, Mark O'Brien made a lay-up to make it a 55-53 Raider lead.
 
With 34.9 second left Chris Confair hit two free throws to tie the ball game at 55-55 for the Highlanders.  
 
The Raiders held the ball until freshman Mike Stone drilled a three with 3 seconds left on the clock to lift the Raiders to a 58-55 lead.  The shot proved to be the game winner after the Highlanders failed to convert on a Hail Mary pass.
 
Bland finished the night with a game high 21 points to go along with his 14 rebounds. William Kemp-Harris chipped in 15 points.
 
The Highlanders were led by Munoz's 19 points and 15 rebounds.
 
With the win the Raiders improve to 7-13 and 3-2 in the American Mideast Conference.
 
The team is back in action this Saturday when they host Wilberforce University at 4pm.
