ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 28, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team lost 69-66 to the Wilberforce University Bulldogs this afternoon.
The loss snaps the Riders' season-best three game winning streak.
The Raiders had a difficult time slowing down the speedy Bulldogs in the first half as the visitors led by as many as seven points halfway through the half as Wilberforce would take a 36-33 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Raiders would regain the lead with 9:50 on the clock when
Alif Bland scored from underneath the basket, giving the home team a 52-50 lead.
Wilbrerforce would regain the lead for good when Wilson Thomas hit a three with 4:31 remaining, giving the Bulldogs a 62-60 lead.
The Raiders trailed by two points with :09 seconds remaining when
William Kemp-Harris made a lay-up, making it a 68-66 game.
The Bulldogs' Terrance Morgan would seal the win by making a free throw to make it a 69-66 lead with :01 second on the clock for Wilberforce..
Bland scored a career best 30 points to go along with his 11 rebounds to lead the Raiders in the losing effort. Bland added four blocks in the game, bringing his season total to 72.
Dominique Williams added 10 points for the Raiders.
Chris Olafioye led the Bulldogs with 14 points.
The Raiders fall to 7-14 overall and 3-4 in American Mideast Conference action.
The Raiders travel to Amherst, N.Y. this Tuesday in a key AMC match-up against Daemen College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
