MANSFIELD, Pa. (January 3rd, 2012) - The Women's Basketball team's rally fell short this evening as the Raiders lost 79-70 to the Mansfield University Mountaineers.
The Raiders fell behind early and trailed the Mountaineers by 21 points on several occasions in the first half.
In the first half, the Raiders struggled to keep possession of the ball as the Mountaineers forced 14 turnovers before halftime.
After the break, the Raiders stormed back from a 17 point halftime deficit to trail by two points with 8:52 left after
Carneisha Henry hit two free throws.
That would be as close as the Raiders would get as the Mountaineers would pull away for good.
The Raiders outscored the Mountaineers 40-32 in the second half as
Marissa Bunce put up 13 points in the second stanza.
Four Raiders would finish in double digits. Bunce led the team with 18 points while
Sydni Lester and
Lindsay Kendall each notched 12 points.
Ashley Cianfriglia added 11 points for the Raiders.
The Mountaineers' Jena Matter led all scorers with 22 points. Mallory Moore earned a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the home team.
Both teams shot 48.3% from the field, the Raiders made 29 of 60 attempts.
The loss puts the Raiders at 10-5 on the season.
The Raiders resume conference play next Tuesday as the team host Thruway rivals, Daemen College. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
