Volleyball Set to Host Three Matches This Weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 26, 2012) – The Volleyball team is set to host three matches in two days, starting this evening when the Redhawks host the LIU Post Pioneers at 7pm.
 
Fans attending tonight's match are encouraged to wear white as part of a 'WHITEOUT' promotion. Those in attendance that are wearing white will receive a token for a free DQ Mini Blizzard, redeemable at the Dairy Queen on Jefferson Road in Henrietta.
 
Tomorrow, Roberts Wesleyan will take on NYIT at 11am and then Daemen College at 3pm.
 
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (11-9/7-3 ECC)
The Redhawks saw their six match winning streak snapped last Sunday afternoon on the road when the fell to the University of Bridgeport in four sets (28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 25-27). Bridgeport currently sits atop the ECC standings with a record of 9-1 in the conference and 17-4 overall.
 
Alexa Antoni continues to be the main source of offense for Roberts Wesleyan as she has 253 kills and averages 3.12 kills per set. Sophomore Kendall Havener has 173 kills, good enough for third on the team and has a solid .277 hitting percentage.
 
Senior outside hitter Gisela Ocasio leads the team with 37 aces, ten more than Havener.
 
SCOUTING LIU POST (19-11/8-3 ECC)
In the last meeting between the two teams on Sep. 29, the Redhawks won 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-14). However, the Pioneers have gone 9-2 since then, including a 3-0 win over NYIT on Oct. 16.
 
Makamae Namahoe leads the Pioneers with 321 kills this season with an average of 2.84 kills per set.
 
As a team, LIU Post has been excellent near the net by out blocking their opponents 266 to 163. Canandaigua, N.Y.-native Lisa Delfs leads the team with 116 blocks (29 solo, 87 assists).
 
SCOUTING NYIT (16-6/8-3 ECC)
The Bears took down the Redhawks in five sets (14-25, 25-21, 25-16, 19-25, 6-15) in Old Westbury, N.Y. in late September. Since then, NYIT has gone 7-3.
 
Leading the way for the Bears are three players who have at least 250 kills apiece. Shelby Cable leads the way with 300 kills through 22 matches. Cable is averaging nearly 3.50 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .238.
 
Savannah Donarksi has 258 kills (3.00 kills per set), while Katarina Sretenovic is right behind with 252 (2.93 kills per set).
 
SCOUTING DAEMEN (18-9 Independent)
The Wildcats, who will become members of the East Coast Conference next year, have been strong this season. At one point, Daemen was able to string together 12 consecutive wins, including a 3-0 win at home over the Redhawks.
 
Junior hitter Jenn Karan leads the team with 273 kills and has a hitting percentage of .269. Senior Joanna Fretthold is not far behind with 259 kills and is also second on the team with 27 aces (three less than leader Chelsea Turcer).
 
The Wildcats have also out blocked their opponents 180 to 110 this season.
 
UP NEXT
The Redhawks hit the road for three matches, starting next weekend with road dates against Mercy College on Nov. 3 and the University of the District of Columbia on Nov. 4. The team will then visit Houghton on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
