ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 27, 2012) – The Women's Volleyball team split a pair of matches today as the team fell to NYIT 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 19-25, 18-25) before defeating Deamen College in five sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-27, 25-23, 15-7).

In the first match, the Redhawks sprang out to a quick 1-0 lead, but the visiting Bears proved too much to handle the rest of the way.  With the win, the Bears swept the season series with their other win coming on Sep. 29 when NYIT outlasted the Redhawks in five sets.

Sophomore Judy Schultz led the way for the Redhawks, earning 12 kills off of 24 attempts for a respectable .333 hitting percentage. Classmates Kendall Havener added 11 kills while Jordan Wilson made 10 kills.

Seniors Alexa Antoni and Gisela Ocasio each had six kills and 10 digs for Roberts Wesleyan.

In the second match, the Redhawks were able to defeat their Thruway rivals for the first time since Sep. 18, 2010.

The five set match was an emotional roller coaster for both teams as the Redhawks jumped out to a two-set lead. In the third set, Roberts Wesleyan went up 21-16, only to suffer a strong rally by the Wildcats.  Down the stretch of the third set,
Daemen would outscore the Redhawks 11 to 4 to take the set.

After Daemen evened up the match at two sets apiece, the Redhawks would take flight in the fifth and final set by scoring the final six points.

Antoni led the way for the Redhawks in the match, picking up 20 kills while adding 20 digs. Wilson was also effective on offense, adding 14 kills.

Freshman Maggie Concannon chipped in a whopping 61 assists to go along with a team high 21 digs.

After splitting the two matches, the Redhawks are now 13-10 overall and 8-4 in East Coast Conference action.

The team is off until this weekend when they travel to take on Mercy College (Nov. 3) and the University of the District of Columbia (Nov. 4).
