Volleyball Hosts Two ECC Matches This Weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 4, 2012) – The Redhawks host two conference matches this weekend at the Voller Athletic Center as they host Mercy College this evening at 7pm and the University of the District of Columbia tomorrow at 1pm.

SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (6-8/2-2 ECC)
The Redhawks have had a week off since their last pair of matches. The team split two matches on the road last Saturday by falling in five sets to NYIT and shutting out LIU Post in three sets. Senior hitter Gisela Ocasio led both teams in both matches in kills.

Alexa Antoni still leads Roberts Wesleyan with 168 kills and is averaging 2.85 kills per set. Ocasio is right behind her classmate with 142 kills with 2.45 kills per set while leading the Redhawks with 22 aces.

Defensively, sophomore Kendall Havener leads the team with 64 total blocks (48 assists, 16 solo). Havener has been solid from the serving line with 21 aces this season.

SCOUTING MERCY (2-13/0-5 ECC)
The Mavericks come into Friday's match with two glaring stats that sum up their season thus far. The team leads their opponents in kills 632 to 536, but have more than double the errors with 435 to 232.

Leading the Mavericks' offense is Brenna White with 245 kills as she averages a whopping 4.45 kills per set. Nicolette Gebhardt is a distant second with 134 kills.

SCOUTING DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (7-8/2-3 ECC)
The Firebirds sit right behind Roberts Wesleyan in the conference standings after having lost three of their last four conference matches. All three losses have been three-set matches with both wins coming in the form of the five-set variety.

UDC has spread the wealth offensively with three players leading the way. Vanessa Garley leads the Firebirds with 119 kills, but Julia Lynch and Jazmin Rogers are right behind with 103 and 101 kills respectively.

The Firebirds are also an efficient team as they have committed just 244 errors through their first 15 matches this season.

UP NEXT
The Redhawks will hit the road for the next few weeks with ECC match-ups taking them to Queens College and Molloy College next Saturday (Oct. 13) and then Dowling College on Saturday, Oct. 20 and the University of Bridgeport on Sunday, Oct. 21.
