Volleyball Wins On Senior Day, Defeats Queens In Three Sets

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 10, 2012) – The Volleyball team closed out the regular season with a dominating 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-18) win over the visiting Knights of Queens College this morning.

The Redhawks, celebrating their senior class on Senior Day, finish the regular season having won five straight matches and have six of their last seven.

Senior Gisela Ocasio picked up a match high 12 kills and three aces to go along with nine digs for the Redhawks. Fellow senior Alexa Antoni also had a solid match, finishing with 10 kills, two aces, and eight digs. Antoni finishes the regular season with a team-high 330 kills and an average of 3.08 kills per set.

Freshman Maggie Concannon surpassed the 1,000 assists mark for the season by making 32 assists in the match. Concannon now has 1,011 assists through 27 matches for an average of 9.63 assists per set.

With the win, the Redhawks conclude their home schedule with a record of 9-2 (6-2 in conference action) and are now 8-2 in three set matches.

Overall, the team enters the NCCAA East Region Tournament with an overall record of 17-10 and an East Coast Conference record of 11-4.

The Redhawks will travel to Canton, Ohio next weekend for the East Region Tournament where they will play as the third seed in the six team tournament.  On Friday, the team will face Houghton College and Malone (Ohio) University in pool play before competing in the elimination round on Saturday.

The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships.
