ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 13, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team fell to the visiting Mansfield University Mountaineers this evening 100-64 in front on a large season opening crowd.
The visitors started out hot from the start, jumping out to a large 24-5 lead just ten minutes into the first half. Junior forward Onyema Utti led the Mountaineers in the first half, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Going into the locker room, the Redhawks found themselves in a 15 point hole, trailing 42-27.
Down the stretch in the second half, the Redhawks were unable to contain the Mountaineers as Roberts Wesleyan was out-rebounded on the defensive boards 27 to 16.
There were a few bright spots for the home team however. Newcomer
Devin Grimes finished with a team-high 17 points and finished with a double-double after hauling in 11 rebounds. The forward finished the night 7 for 17 from the floor, shooting 41.2%
Sophomore
Mike Stone scored 11 points on the night while earning two assists in the game.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 39.3% from the floor while their counterparts went 42 of 63, for a shooting percentage of 66.7%.
Roberts Wesleyan will have a week to shake off the loss as their second game comes next Tuesday when they host Houghton College at 8pm.
