ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 15, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team fell 77-66 to the visiting Daemen College Wildcats this evening in their home opener.
The Redhawks played strong in the first half when they went on the 17-5 run over a six and a half minute stretch midway through the half. Roberts Wesleyan's largest lead of the game came during the end of that run when they led by 15 with the score being 28-13 in the home team's favor.
However, the Wildcats would storm back, finishing the first half with a 20-6 run to cut the Redhawks to 34-33 as the teams went into the locker rooms.
In the final 20 minutes, the Redhawks were unable to stop the Wildcats offense as Daemen shot 50% from the floor in the second half. To start the second stanza, Daemen was able to take the lead for good after going on a 14-5 run over the first four and a half minutes.
Down the stretch, the solid shooting would prove too much for the Redhawks as Deamen finished the night shooting 41.6% from the floor and 41.2% from the beyond the arc.
There were however, some bright spots for Roberts Wesleyan. Senior
Brittany Williams and freshman
Samantha Courtney each posted 13 points for the Redawks. Courtney also notched seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
Carneisha Henry led Roberts Wesleyan with eight rebounds while scoring eight points. Classmate
Marissa Sell also hauled in eight rebounds while putting up 10 points.
With the loss, the Redhawks fall to 2-1 on the early season while Daemen improved to 8-1.
The team is in action next Tuesday when they host Houghton College at 6pm in the Voller Athletic Center. The game is the first part of a double header with the men's game following at 8pm.
Tickets for the doubleheader are $3. Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary Faculty, Staff, and Students are admitted for free with a valid College ID.
