Women's Basketball Tops Houghton, 70-51

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 20, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team picked up their first win at home this evening, defeating Houghton College, 70-51.

The Redhawks were led by forwards Samantha Courtney and Marissa Sell. Courtney, a freshman, put up 16 points after going 8 of 15 from the field in addition to hauling in eight rebounds, and blocking three shots.

Sell was effective off of the bench, scoring 10 points by shooting 55.6% from the floor. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds for the Redhawks.

Ashley Cianfriglia added six assists in the game for the while Brittany Williams and Carneisha Henry each scored eight points.

Roberts Wesleyan was very effective on defense by forcing Houghton to turn the ball over 24 times and scoring 29 points off of the Highlanders miscues.

The Redhawks also received plenty of help from their deep bench, getting 36 points from their non-starters.

With the win, the Redhawks improve to 3-1 on the early season as they prepare for next week's Wendy's College Classic.

Their first round game will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at time and location to be determined.
