Women's Basketball Opens Wendy's College Classic at William Smith College

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 26, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team will take on William Smith College in the first round of the Wendy's College Classic on Tuesday at 8pm. The game is the second of a doubleheader at Williams Smith's Bristol Gymnasium.
 
TICKETS
Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $5 for adults and $2 for students, children, and veterans. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge, which provides temporary lodging for cancer and trauma patients and their caregivers.
 
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (3-1/0-0 ECC)
The Redhawks come into the game after picking up a 70-51 win over Houghton College on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
 
Freshman forward Samantha Courtney leads the Redhawks with 13.8 points per game through the team's first four games. Courtney is also averaging 8.5 rebounds per game and already has 13 blocks on the season.
 
Senior Brittany Williams is right behind with 12.5 points per game while averaging 5.0 rebounds and is second on the team with 10 steals. Williams has shot well from the free-throw line thus far, making 10 of 11 shots from the charity stripe.
 
Ashley Cianfriglia has been a solid distributor early on, leading the team with 17 assists. Fellow guard Marissa Bunce has 16 assists to go along with her team-best 11 steals.
 
SCOUTING WILLIAM SMITH (1-1/0-0 Liberty League)
The Herons have split their first two games to open up their season. After defeating Potsdam State, on Nov. 17, the team fell to the University of Rochester three days later, 79-46.
 
Senior guard Sydni Salvatore leads William Smith with 13.5 points per game after hitting five shots from beyond the arc in her first two games. Salvatore also leads the team with nine assists and seven steals.
 
Chloe Hayter is averaging 12.0 points per game posting a 16 point outburst in their win over Potsdam and is shooting 47.6% from the field.
 
Sophomore forward Molly Breen leads the Herons with 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior guard Jacqueline Murphy has also done well on the boards, leading the team with 10 defensive rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The winner of this game will face the winner of Nazareth/SUNY Geneseo game in the first semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6pm in the Palestra at the University of Rochester.
