Men's Basketball Lose to Hobart in Double Overtime, 81-80

GENEVA, N.Y. (November, 28, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team fell to Hobart College in a heartbreaking double overtime loss, 81-80, in Wendy's College Classic first round action.

The Redhawks started out slowly, falling behind 11-0 to start the game before climbing their way back to take a 36-33 lead at halftime. In the second half, both teams played it close with several lead changes throughout second stanza.

In the first overtime period, Herbert Alexander tied the game at 73 with a lay-up with 35 second left on the clock to force a second overtime after both teams traded the lead.

The second overtime period would see the Redhawks take an 80-79 lead after freshman William Bromirski hit two free throws with 46 seconds remaining.

With just 16 second left, Hobarts' Stefan Thompson made the deciding layup to make it 81-80. Tyrel Dixon was able to put up one last shot, but missed as time expired.

Senior forward Devin Grimes picked up his third double-double of the season by scoring 23 points and hauling in 15 rebounds. Grimes was 8 of 17 to finish the evening with a 47.1% shooting percentage.

As a team the Redhawks were effective on offense, shooting 47% from the field while Hobart shot 41.7%.

Dixon finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds while Patrick Downer added 13 points, two rebounds, and three blocked shots for the Redhawks.

Herbert Alexander was solid on defense by making a game-high six steals to go along with his eight points and six rebounds.

The loss puts Roberts Wesleyan at 2-3 on the season and will face SUNY Geneseo in their first consolation game this Friday in Geneseo. Tip-off is slated for 8pm.
