ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 7, 2012) – The Volleyball team begins a busy week tonight as they travel south to take on NCCAA East Region rivals, Houghton College at 7pm.
In the final week of the regular season, the Redhawks will also host Molloy College on Friday evening and Queens College on Saturday.
Roberts Wesleyan downed Houghton in
three sets at home back on Sep. 15 and will look to pick up the season sweep this evening.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (14-10/9-4 ECC)
Coming into tonight's match, the Redhawks have won three of their last four, including a 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 15-25, 25-21) victory over the University of the District of Columbia this past weekend.
Alexa Antoni has continued to lead the team on offense as she has 303 kills while averaging 3.09 kills per set. The senior also ranks third on the team in digs (225), blocks (40), and is fourth in aces (26).
Freshman
Maggie Concannon leads the East Coast Conference with 907 assists while averaging 9.45 assists per set. Concannon already ranks ninth in program history for assists per set in a single season.
SCOUTING HOUGHTON (18-10/5-3 E8)
The Highlanders come into their final regular season match having won five of their last six as they prepare for the NCCAA East Region Tournament next weekend.
Houghton is led by seniors Rebecca Dennee and Lindsay Burgher on offense. The duo each have 226 kills with Denne is averaging a team best 2.46 kills per set. Burgher's younger sister, Hattie, is right behind with 216 kills with an average of 2.10 kills per set.
Lindsay Burgher also leads the team with 93.5 blocks (50 solo, 61 assists) this season. The senior middle blocker from Selkirk, N.Y. is also one of just two Highlanders to have played in all 105 sets.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks will compete in the NCCAA East Region Tournament next weekend on the campus of Malone University in Canton, Ohio. Coming into the final week of the season, Roberts Wesleyan will most likely earn the third seed in the six team tournament.
The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship.
