ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 10, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team hosts their Thruway rivals, Daemen College, in non-conference action Tuesday evening at 7pm.
The Wildcats visit the Voller Athletic Center as members of the USCAA as they are in Candidacy Year One of their transition to the NCAA Division II. Next fall, Daemen will compete with Roberts Wesleyan in the East Coast Conference.
TICKETS
Tickets for the game are general admission and cost only $3. Students, Faculty, and Staff of Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary are free with a valid College ID.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (4-4/1-0 ECC)
The Redhawks come into the game having won their conference opener on Saturday, an 84-79 overtime decision against Mercy College.
Mike Stone had a spectacular night from long range, hitting all of his six three-point shot attempts. In all, the sophomore guard scored a game-high 25 points for the home team.
Senior swingman
Devin Grimes grabbed 16 rebounds for the Redhawks in their win against Mercy and continues to average a double-double. Through eight games, Grimes is averaging 16.0 points per game and 13.4 rebounds per game.
Classmate and fellow forward
Patrick Downer leads the team in blocks (7) and steals (18) while averaging 10.8 points per game.
Freshman
Tyrel Dixon is averaging 11.5 points per game for Roberts Wesleyan and is shooting 50.7% from the field and an impressive 77.3% from the free throw line. The forward also has 17 steals.
SCOUTING DAEMEN (11-4 Independent)
The Wildcats competed in the Joe Manchin Classic at Salem International University in Salem, W. Va. over the weekend. After taking down the hosts 86-66 in the opener, Daemen fell to Newberry (S.C.) College on Saturday, 97-95.
Sophomore forward Gerald Beverly has been solid for the Wildcats this season, leading the team with 15.3 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. Through 15 games, Beverly has 229 points and 117 rebounds for Daemen.
From long range, Daemen is led by forward Jordan Greene. The sophomore is shooting 47% from beyond the arc, connecting on 30 of 63 attempts.
Junior guard Casey Sheehan is averaging 14.1 points per game while leading the Wildcats with 27 steals. As a team, the Wildcats are +4.1 in turnovers by forcing 20.3 turnovers per game.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks hit the road to take on the University of the District of Columbia this Saturday at 1pm in the nation's capital.
After the holiday break, they will visit the University of Bridgeport on Thursday, Jan. 3, and St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Roberts Wesleyan returns home when they host LIU Post on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 8pm.
