ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 14, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team will square-off against the University of the District of Columbia this Saturday afternoon at 1pm in East Coast Conference action. The game is the first of a two-game doubleheader with the women's team playing a 3pm.
TICKETS
Admission for the men's and women's doubleheader is $5 at the door. Visiting students of the opposing team, members of the military, and senior citizens (60 and older) are just $2. Children eight years old and younger are free.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (4-5/1-0 ECC)
Coming into the game, the Redhawks are looking to shake off a 73-67 loss to Daemen College from earlier in the week. In the loss,
Mike Stone led all-scorers with 17 points to go along with four steals.
Devin Grimes continues his senior campaign by averaging a double-double in scoring and rebounding. Through nine games, Grimes is averaging 15.9 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. From the field, the swingman is shooting 47% and leads the Redhawks with 23 assists.
From long range, Stone is shooting 43.5% by hitting 20 of 46 shots from beyond the arc. The sophomore is averaging 12.0 points per game and is second on the team with 20 assists.
Other Redhawks averaging double-digits are
Tyrel Dixon and
Patrick Downer. Dixon, a freshman, is averaging 11.4 points per game while Downer is right behind with 10.8 points per game.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan has a slight edge in rebounding over their opponents with a +1.4 margin. The Redhawks also hold a slim +0.4 turnover margin and are averaging 10.1 steals per game compared to their opponent's average of 9 per game.
SCOUTING DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (1-7/0-1 ECC)
The Firebirds record could be a little misleading as UDC started the opened the season with four games against NCAA Division I opponents in the annual 2K Sports Classic. Among those games, the Firebirds faced talented teams such as Villanova and Marshall.
The Firebirds are led by Quasim Jones, who is averaging 12.9 points per game. The junior guard has scored in double-digits in every game except in the team's two-point loss to rivals Bowie State earlier this week.
As a team, UDC is shooting 35.7% from the field and 33.8% from three-point range. The team is solid from the free-throw line with four regular starters averaging near the 75% range.
In rebounding, UDC is led by Dyrek Jones' 6.3 rebounds per game. The 6'8” senior forward also leads the team with 1.3 blocks per game.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks are off until Jan. 3 when they visit the University of Bridgeport for a 7pm game. Two days later, the team will visit Saint Thomas Aquinas College before coming home when they entertain LIU Post on Jan. 9 at 8pm.
