WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 15, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team improved to 2-0 in East Coast Conference play with a 77-67 win over the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon.
After shooting just 37.5% from the field and 22.2% from long range in the first half, the visiting Redhawks got hot in the second half by shooting 63% from the field and a blistering 71.4% from three-point range.
Leading the way for Roberts Wesleyan was
Devin Grimes, who had 23 points after going 9 of 16 from the field. The forward finished with another double-double by grabbing 16 rebounds (15 defensive). Grimes, as well as
Tyrel Dixon, made three steals.
The impressive numbers improves Grimes season averages to 16.6 points per game and 13.6 rebounds per game.
Dixon, who shot 5 of 9 on the day, finished with 10 points and hauled in six rebounds while contributing with a team-high four assists. On the season, Dixon is third on the team by averaging 11.3 points per game and leads the team with a 51.1% field goal percentage.
Sophomore guard
Mike Stone ended the game with 16 points after hitting 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. The Kirkville, N.Y.-native is shooting 45.1% from long-range on the season.
As a team, the Redhawks forced 16 turnovers while giving the ball away 15 times, which mirrors their +0.5 turnover margin on the season.
The win improves the Redhawks record to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the ECC.
The Redhawks will have a lengthy holiday break as they are off until Jan. 3 when they visit the University of Bridgeport.
