ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 8, 2012) – The Men's Basketball team downed Mercy College 84-79 in overtime this evening in East Coast Conference action. The game was the conference opener for the Redhawks.
Sophomore guard
Mike Stone paced the home team with 25 points after going a perfect 6 of 6 from beyond the arc. The perfect shooting is a personal record as Stone was a perfect 5 of 5 against SUNY Geneseo on Nov. 30.
Stone finished the night going 8 of 12 from the field and 3 of 5 from the free throw line.
Junior
Patrick Downer was effective with 19 points, a season high for the swing man. Downer was 6 of 14, but made several trips to the charity stripe down the stretch. At the line, Downer connected on 7 of 13 attempts.
Also scoring in double figures for Roberts Wesleyan was freshman
William Bromirski. The guard added 16 points after connecting on 4 of 9 attempts from long range and a perfect 4 of 4 at the line.
Devin Grimes scored a season-low 8 points in the game, but grabbed 16 rebounds (11 defensive) for the Redhawks. The senior big-man also added a season-best six assists.
The win puts Roberts Wesleyan at .500 with a 4-4 record and 1-0 in the ECC.
This coming Tuesday, the team hosts Thruway rivals, Deamen College, in a non-conference game at 7pm. Tickets are $3 at the door. Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary faculty, staff, and students are free with a vaild College ID.
