ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 14, 2012) – The Men's Lacrosse team earned its first ever win in program history this evening, defeating the visiting Cazenovia College Wildcats, 17-8.
The Raiders got things going quickly as
Brett Capps scored the game's first goal with just over a minute into the first period. The home team continued to pressure the Wildcats in the first period, scoring six goals off of 22 shots.
Going into halftime, the Raiders led 11-5 over the visiting Wildcats.
As the game went on, the Raiders continued to knock on the door, compiling 56 shots over the four periods.
The Raiders led in nearly every statistical category in the team's first win of the season. Anthony Nucci Laura won 20 of 28 face-offs and picked up 11 of the Raiders 39 groundballs.
Goalie
Matt Hamilton earned the win between the posts, making 10 saves in the game.
Attackman
David Smith led the Raiders with five goals off of 14 shots. Smith had a team high eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in the game.
Colin Cornaire notched five goals to go along with one assist.
Brett Capps had a solid night for the Raiders, netting four goals from nine shots.
Craig Petit,
Sean Cone, and
Felix DeClercq eached scored one goals for the home team.
Jevon Pakkala led the Wildcats with two goals and an assist.
With the win, the Raiders are 1-3 on the season.
The Raiders will travel to take on Molloy College on Saturday in Rockville Centre, N.Y. at 1pm.
