WINONA LAKE, Ind. (March 14, 2012) – The Women's Basketball team fell to the Cedarville University Yellowjackets, 69-60 in the quarterfinals of the NCCAA National Championships.
The Raiders struggled to find their rhythm early on in the game, falling behind 11-0 to the Yellowjackets.
As a team the Raiders shot a mere 18.8 % in the first half, and missed on all 12 attempts from three point range.
"We had some poor possessions early as Cedarville came out very strong,” said coach
Bob Segave. “I was not disappointed with our energy or our shot selection early, but the shots did not fall."
Despite the lack of offense, the Raiders only trailed 29-20 at the half.
In the second half, the Raiders shot better, shooting nearly 50% from the field and went 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Senior forward
Sarah Child surpassed the 1,000 career points mark in the second half when she hit a jumper in the paint with 10:45 remaining in the game. She now has a total of 1,005 career points.
"I know Sarah would trade the 1,000 points for a victory today,” said Segave. “I congratulate her on her career to this point and am looking
forward to coaching her for two more games"
The Raiders would hit three from long range late in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets led by as many as 15 points with just :33 seconds left on the clock.
Child finished the game with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman
Marissa Sell led the Raiders with her fifth double-double scoring 14 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Junior
Sara Alward
chipped in 13 points after going five of six from the floor.
The Raiders fall to 21-12 on the season and will take on Bluefield College at 8:30am Thursday morning in a consolation game.
