LIMA, Ohio (March 18, 2012) – The Men's Tennis team dropped its two matches this weekend on the road at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
On Friday, the Raiders were edged 5-4 by the UNOH Racers.
German Michaylyszyn earned two points a double winner, defeating Emin Alpin 6-2,1-6, 6-3 at 3rd singles and won his 2
nd doubles match, 8-4 with teammate
Enrique Flores.
Beka Buchukuri and
Julio Toledo won a competitive match 8-6 at 1st doubles.
Senior Andy Levandovski and freshman
Emanuel Rauchle pulled out a thrilling win at 3rd doubles, earning a close 9-8 win with 7-5 tiebreaker.
On Saturday, the Raiders were done in by 14
th ranked (NAIA) Aquinas College, losing 8-1.
The bright spot in the match came at 1st singles where Buchukuri and Toledo defeated Aaron Hendrick and Nik Arteav of Aquinas, 8-5. Hendrick and Arteav are currently ranked #1 in the East Region and #7 Nationally in NAIA rankings.
The day before, Buchukuri and Toledo defeated the 13
th ranked (#2 in East Region) doubles team of Jeff Brown and Juan Cardenas of UNOH 8-6.
Buchukuri and Toledo are currently ranked 6th in the East Region.
"We played a little flat against a very strong team and you see the results,” said Linhart. “Beka and Julio played very well this weekend. We need to get refocused and attend to the matches we have left if we are to expect a bid to NCCAA National Championships this year."
The Raiders resume play against local rival RIT on Thursday at 4pm at the RIT Tennis Courts.
