ONEONTA, N.Y. (March 6, 2012) - The Women's Lacrosse team dropped thier inaugural game this afternoon to the Oneonta State Red Dragons, 17-4.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
Alison Kendall led the Raiders with two goals in the game, including the team's first ever goal. That goal came only one minute into the first half off a free position shot.
Despite getting out-shot 30 to 15, the Raiders kept things close in other categories.
Both teams turned the ball over numerous times as the Raiders gave it up 21 times to the Red Dragons 20 turnovers.
The Raiders also transitioned well, earning 12 of 15 successful clears, including 7 of 8 in the second half.
The visitors edged Oneonta in groundballs, 21 to 19.
Other goal scorers for the Raiders included juniors
Vanessa Sell and
Theresa Catteau. Both notched one goal a piece.
In goal,
Stephanie McClure made five saves for the Raiders.
The Red Dragons were led by Rebecca Monteith and Kiera McNally. Both scored three goals and earned two assists.
The Raiders continue thier road swing this Thursday when they take on Buffalo State at 4pm.
