Women's Lacrosse Set New Scoring Record in Road Win

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (April 10, 2012) – The Women's Lacrosse team scored a program best 20 goals in their win over Mount Saint Mary College this afternoon.

The 20-11 win gave the Raiders their fourth win overall and third road win of the season.

The visitors got things going quickly, scoring five unanswered goals in the first seven minutes of the game. The Raiders led the game 7-0 until the Knights were able to respond.

Junior Alison Kendall was nearly unstoppable in the first half, scoring five goals, including four of the first seven. As a team, the Raiders outshot Mount Saint Mary 22-8 in the first stanza while taking a 10-4 lead into the break.

The second half saw more of the same as Roberts Wesleyan scored another 10 goals off of 20 shots.

Vanessa Sell continued her solid play by scoring five goals off of just six shots for the Raiders. Senior Kara Farnsworth and Thresa Catteau each scored two goals for the visitors. Lauren Mueller also got in the action by scoring her lone goal as time expired at the end of the game.

In goal, Stephanie McClure recorded 10 saves in the game with eight coming in the second half.

The Raiders led in shots, 42-30, but lost the ground ball battle (23-21) and draw controls (18-14) to the home team.

The win puts the Raiders at 4-6 on the season.

The team will look to earn their fifth win this Friday when they host SUNY Canton in the first game of a double header against the Kangaroos. Game time is 4pm with the men's game starting immediately after.
