ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 2, 2012) – The Women's Lacrosse team won the program's first-ever home game this evening by defeating the SUNYIT Wildcats, 19-11.
The Raiders also set a program record for goals scored. The previous record was 13 in a win over Wells College earlier in the season.
The Raiders never trailed in the game after
Vanessa Sell got things going four minutes into the game by scoring on a free position shot.
The Wildcats would respond when Taviot Jakowski equalized three minutes later to make it a 1-1 game. However, the Raiders would find their offensive rhythm and score seven of the next nine goals that was capped off by a goal by
Lindsay Kendall to make it an 8-3 lead halfway through the first period. That goal was Kendall's first of the season.
After leading 11-6 at the break, the Raiders led the Wildcats back into the game as the Wildcats scored three straight to make it a 14-11 game with just 13:09 remaining in the game.
The home team would respond and put the game away for good by scoring the final five goals to earn the victory.
The Raiders were led by
Theresa Catteau and
Alison Kendall. Catteau notched a game-high six goals while Kendall earned four goals.
Sell earned five points in the game after scoring three goals and adding two assists for the Raiders. Others getting in on the action included
Lauren Mueller with three goals and
Kara Farnsworth with two.
The Wildcats were led by Jakowski's five goals along with Amanda Bohne's three goals and one assist.
The win improves the Raiders record to 3-5 in their inaugural season.
The Raiders have little time to savor the win as they host Keuka College this Wednesday at 4pm. The Storm are 4-0 and are the reigning NEAC champions.
