Early Goals Doom Men's Lacrosse at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 7, 2012) – The Men's Lacrosse team fell to the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights, 15-7 this afternoon after giving up six unanswered first period goals.
 
The Raiders were unable to respond to the Golden Knights attack until Felix DeClercq sent one home with 11:32 on the clock in the second period to make it 6-1.
 
Saint Rose would score five times in the second period and to take a commanding 11-3 lead into the locker room at the break.
 
In the second half, the Raiders were able to match the Golden Knights as both teams traded goals as each team scored four times over the last two periods.
 
The outcome may have been different had the Raiders been able to take advantage of more extra-man opportunities. As a team, the Raiders went 1 of 11 in extra man opportunities as Saint Rose racked up 8:30 in penalty minutes.
 
Leading the Raiders in the loss was freshman David Smith. The midfielder scored three goals off of 13 shots and notched two assists. Smith continues to lead the team in goals with 21 on the season.
 
Felix Declerq scored a season best two goals in the game and now has three goals to his name thus far.
 
Faceoff specialist Anthony Nucci Lauria had another spectacular day, winning 17 of 24 faceoffs for the Raiders. The freshman has a .653 win percentage and has won 117 of 179 attempts.
 
In goal, Matt Hamilton made 16 saves between the pipes for the Raiders.
 
For the Golden Knights, Brett McAuliffe led all scorers with six goals in the game.
 
The Raiders are now 2-6 in 2012 and will look to earn their first road win of the season this Wednesday when they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to take on Dominican College at 4pm.
