ROCHESTER, N.Y. (August 31, 2012) – The Women's Soccer team makes their 2012 debut on the road this evening when they take on former NAIA and American Mideast Conference foes, Walsh University.
The Redhawks will also go up against Malone University tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.
In 2011, the Redhawks advanced to the first round of the NAIA National Championships for the first time in program history after defeating Houghton College in the American Mideast Conference Tournament title game.
SCOUTING WALSH (0-0-0/0-0-0 GLIAC)
The Cavalier, who begin their first season in the Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), will be a competitive opponent for the Redhawks' season opener.
A year ago, Walsh posted a 13-5 record behind Carley Adams (Louisville, Ohio) and her 11 goals. The senior posted a team-high 23 points last season and looks to take the reins again in her final season.
SCOUTING MALONE (1-0-0/0-0-0 GLIAC)
The Pioneers won their season opener against Shawnee (Ohio) State yesterday by an impressive score of 5-0. Last season, Malone found scoring to be difficult as the team averaged just 1.75 goals per game. The bright side was the Pioneers spread the wealth with 15 different goal scorers.
Malone will look to improve upon a 3-13 overall record from a year ago as they begin their first season as members of the GLIAC.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks continue their road trip this Tuesday when they travel east on the Thruway to take on Le Moyne College in non-conference action. First kick is scheduled for 4pm.
