Volleyball Split First Two Matches at Crimson Hawk Invite

Indiana, Pa. (August 31, 2012) – The Redhawks split their first two matches of the season at the Crimson Hawk Invitational on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania today.

In the first match, the Redhawks fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies 3-1 after winning the opening set.

In the first set, the Redhawks made a thrilling comeback to win the first set 26-24 after trailing 13-2 early in the set. The Redhawks would then take a 24-21 lead in the second set, but faltered as the Huskies stole the set with a 26-24 win.

Down the stretch, the Huskies managed to take control of the match by dominating the net by out-blocking the Redhawks 10 to 5 through the four sets.

In the second match of the day, the Redhawks would again win the first set before dropping the next two sets against Coker College to find themselves in a must win situation.

This time around, the Redhawks found a way, winning the fourth set 25-15 and the deciding fifth set by a nail-biting score of 16-14. The winning point came when Gisela Ocasio and #Kendall  Havener# combined on a block to stop an attack from Coker's Taylor Willis.

On the day, Alexa Antoni led the Redhawks with a total of 21 kills (13 in the second match) and earned 27.5 points in the two matches.

Freshman Olivia Zureck posted 32 digs on the day, including 22 against Coker in the second match.

The Redhawks return to action tomorrow with matches against Cedarville (Ohio) University and Le Moyne College to wrap up the Crimson
Hawk Invitational.

On Wednesday, Sep. 5, the Redhawks will make their home debut when they host Medaille College at 7:30pm.
