CANTON, Ohio (September 1, 2012) -
Mandi Hochheimer and
Brittany Houghton both scored two goals to lead the Redhawks past Malone University in a 5-1 victory.
The win is the first of the season for the Redhawks after losing 1-0 the night before to Walsh University in the season opener.
Houghton got things going for the visitors in the first minute of play to stun the Malone Pioneers, who had won their first game of the year earlier in the week by a margin of 5-0. Hochheimer would make it 2-0 just four minutes later when Brianna Tata sent a nice through ball into the area.
Getting in on the scoring was Brittany Kinmond in the 32
nd minute after
Ambre Kuzma chipped a ball over the defense, allowing Kinmond to send the ball past Pioneers' goalkeeper, Angie Nutial.
Both Houghton and Hochheimer would add insurance goals in the second half to secure the win for the Redhawks.
Malone would get on the board in the 69
th minute when Natalie Rostedt scored, giving the hosts their lone goal of the game.
With the win, the Redhawks are 1-1 on the season and will continue their road swing this Tuesday when they face Le Moyne College at 4pm.
