ROCHESTER N.Y. (September 21, 2012)- The Women's Soccer Team defeated the Mercy Mavericks in their East Coast Conference opener.
In the 30th minute of the game, forward
Mandi Hochheimer scored the first of the match- giving the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks answered back, however, sinking the equalizer in the bottom corner. Not six minutes later, Mercy netted another one, knocking the score to 2-1. But at the 71st minute, Junior Brittany Kinmond, was fouled in the box and easily sunk a lower corner penalty kick, tying the game 2-2.
The end of regulation time came and went, and the game was sent into overtime. The first period of OT passed without any scoring on either side but the game ender came 3 minutes into the second set of OT. Brittany Kinmond once again rose to the occasion after being awarded another PK and sunk the game ending goal, settling the score at 3-2.
This win continues the Redhawk's winning streak to 6 games, enhancing their record to 7-2. This was the first ECC game and win for the Lady Redhawks.
The team plans to improve their winning record this weekend, when they travel to LIU and battle for their second conference win.
