ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 12, 2013) – The Men's Basketball team fell to Dowling College, 76-58, this afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
The Redhawks started out strong by taking a 5-0 lead, but were unable to keep the lead after the visitors went on a 21-5 run midway through the half to take a 21-10 lead.
In the second half, Roberts Wesleyan would hold Dowling close, cutting the Golden Lions lead to just four when
William Bromirski hit a three-pointer to make it a 35-31 ball game with 15:06 on the clock.
Down the stretch, however, the visitors were able to fend of the Redhawks to earn their first conference win of the season.
Bromirski would finish the game with 13 points while senior
Devin Grimes scored 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Bromirski, a freshman, hit three from long range while going 4 of 10 from the field. Classmate
Tyrel Dixon added 10 points for Roberts
Wesleyan while also making two steals and one blocked shot.
Grimes posted another double-double after shooting 45.5% from the field in addition to going 5 of 8 from the free-throw line.
As a team, the Redhawks just 35.1% from the field while allowing Dowling to shoot 55.6%. The Golden Lions were led by Josh Malone's game-high 19 points.
The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the ECC.
The team hits the road next week with games at Molloy College on Thursday, Jan. 17 and Queens College on Saturday, Jan. 19.
