FLUSHING, N.Y. (January 19, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team fell to Queens College, 68-55, this afternoon.
Queens, who came into the game with just one East Coast Conference win, used a 16-1 run midway through the second half to pull away from Roberts Wesleyan. The run started at the 16:21 mark when Bria Jackson hit a pair of free-throws to make it a 40-39 Queens lead.
The Redhawks were unable to find an answer down the stretch as the team shot just 25.93% from the field and only 16.67% from long range.
Several players did have a solid performance for the visitors, including senior forward
Brittany Williams. After hitting three shots from beyond the arc in the first half, Williams would finish with a game-high 21 points.
Sophomore forward
Christina Healy also had solid numbers with seven points and seven rebounds against the Knights. Her seven rebounds was a season-best after grabbing six boards against Molloy College this past Thursday.
Samantha Courtney added 10 points for the Redhawks after shooting 50% from the field.
As a team, Roberts Wesleyan lost the battle of the boards by being out-rebounded 44 to 35.
Queens' Marie Byrnes led the home team with 17 points after going 7 of 16 from the field.
The loss drops the Redhawks to 8-7 overall and 3-5 in ECC play.
Roberts Wesleyan is off until Wednesday when they host the University of Bridgeport at 6pm inside the Voller Athletic Center.
