ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 22, 2013) – The Men's Basketball team takes on the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights tomorrow
evening at 8pm.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams with Bridgeport coming out on top on Jan. 3, 84-76.
TICKETS
Tickets are $3 at the door and are valid for both the men's game and the women's game at 6pm. Roberts Wesleyan College/Northeastern Seminary faculty, staff, and students are free with a valid College ID.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (5-11/2-6 ECC)
Roberts Wesleyan suffered two close losses on the road last week. Against Molloy College on Thursday, the Redhawks fell 76-68 before dropping a 75-66 decision to Queens College.
Senior forward
Devin Grimes has continued his solid form and is averaging 15.2 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game. Grimes leads the conference with his rebounding average and is fifth in total points with 244 through 16 games.
Freshman
Tyrel Dixon is averaging 10.6 points per game after scoring 17 points against Queens on Saturday. The 17 points ties his season-high which he set on Dec. 1 against the College at Brockport in the final game of the Wendy's College Classic.
SCOUTING BRIDGEPORT (10-8/6-2 ECC)
Bridgeport has been playing at a high level in the second half of the season. After starting out 5-8 in 2012, the Purple Knights have won five of their last six games. Most recently, the team downed St. Thomas Aquinas at home, 72-59.
Senior guard Darian David leads Bridgeport with 16.1 points per game and is shooting nearly 40% from the field. From long range, David is shooting 34.7%. Junior forward Ivan Simic is averaging 12.0 points per game while senior swingman Dion Waiters is adding 10.3 points per game.
As a team, Bridgeport leads the ECC by averaging 34.3% from three-point range.
In rebounding, the team is led by Omari Howard's 7.8 rebounds per game. The 6'4” guard also averages 8.7 points per game while shooting 53.3% from the field.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks host the University of the District of Columbia this Saturday at 4pm. In their first meeting of the season, Roberts Wesleyan downed the Firebirds in the nation's capital, 77-67.
