BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (January 3, 2013) – Sophomore forward
Marissa Sell came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points to lead the visiting Redhawks past the University of Bridgeport, 66-57.
Sell finished the game one rebound short of a double-double after shooting 70% from the field, going 7 of 10 on the night.
The Redhawks, who shot 50% from the field, battled back from a six-point deficit with less than ten minutes remaining to pick up their second East Coast Conference win and first true road victory of the season.
Despite being out-rebounded 41 to 31 by the Purple Knights, Roberts Wesleyan was able to score 25 points off of Bridgeport's 25 turnovers compared to Bridgeport's 18 points.
From the guard position,
Ashley Cianfriglia added 10 points after going 3 of 8 from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range.
Senior forward
Brittany Williams chipped in nine points to go along with six rebounds, three steals, and a block. Classmate
Marissa Bunce posted a game-high seven assists while adding five points in the game.
Bridgeport's Priscilla Dodoo finished with a game-high 21 points after going 8 of 15 and hitting 5 of 7 from the free-throw line. Dodoo also hauled in 12 rebounds for the Purple Knights.
The win puts the Redhawks at 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the ECC.
Roberts Wesleyan will have a day off before visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1pm. The game is the first of the ECC's “Doubleheader of the Week” and will be streamed live at
