Women's Basketball Visits St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 4, 2013) – The Women's Basketball team will take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College this Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
 
The game is the first of a doubleheader between the two ECC schools and will be broadcast online as part of the conference's first “Doubleheader of the Week”.
 
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (7-3/2-1 ECC)
The Redhawks picked up their second East Coast Conference win on Thursday after defeating the University of Bridgeport, 66-57. Sophomore forward Marissa Sell led Roberts Wesleyan with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds.
 
With the win, the Redhawks have now won four of their last five games.
 
Brittany Williams and Samantha Courtney continue to lead the team in scoring as Williams is averaging 10.9 points per game while Courtney is right behind with 10.8. With her 16-point output last night, Sell is now in double figures, averaging an even 10 points per game.
 
On the boards, the Redhawks are averaging just over 42 rebounds per game and hold a +3.9 rebounding margin over their opponents. Both Sell and Courtney are averaging more than seven rebounds per game.
 
SCOUTING ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (5-7/1-1 ECC)
Coming into the game, the Spartans picked up a 56-54 win on the road against Le Moyne College on Dec. 30. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak as St. Thomas Aquinas have now won three of their last five contests.
 
Leading the Spartans on offense is senior Shpresa Liharevic. The guard is averaging 12.5 points per game and is shooting 36.7% from the field. Liharevic is shooting well from the free-throw line this season, hitting nearly 85% of her attempts from the charity stripe.
 
As a team, St. Thomas Aquinas has been effective from long range. With the help of Liharevic and Sara Oliveira, the Spartans are second in the conference with an average of hitting 5.5 three-point shots per game.
 
Defensively, the Spartans are losing the rebounding battle through their first 12 games. The team is averaging 36.9 rebounds per game with a rebound margin of -3.5.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Redhawks return home for two games next week. On Wednesday evening, LIU Post will visit the Voller Athletic Center at 6pm. On Saturday, Roberts Wesleyan will host Dowling College for a 2pm match-up.
