Brittany Williams Scores 20 to Pace Redhawks Past Pioneers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 9, 2013) – Senior forward Brittany Williams scored a team-high 20 points to lead Roberts Wesleyan to a 76-65 win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers.

The win is perhaps the biggest of the season thus far for the Redhawks as LIU Post had received votes in the latest Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Williams, who was celebrating her birthday, went 8 of 14 from the field for the Redhawks.  Her 20 points is a season-high with her previous best coming on Nov. 27 when she scored 17 points against William Smith College.

The Redhawks took the lead with 10:18 left to play in the second half when Samantha Courtney scored from underneath the basket to make it 55-53 in favor of the home team.  The freshman also had a solid night, scoring 19 points in addition to grabbing nine rebounds.

Roberts Wesleyan's defense was solid in the first half, holding LIU Post to a second half shooting percentage of just 22.2% from the field.

Conversely, the Redhawks shot well in both halves of the game. In the first half, Roberts Wesleyan shot an even 50% and 46.67% in the second.

Marissa Bunce added 13 points for the Redhawks, including three shots from long range. Classmate Sarah Alwardt added 11 points after coming off the bench.

The Redhawks, however, were out-rebounded in the game with the Pioneers getting the edge 42-31.
With the win, the Redhawks improve to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in East Coast Conference action.

Roberts Wesleyan is off until this Saturday when they host Dowling College at 2pm in the Voller Athletic Center.

Tickets for the game are $3 at the door. Roberts Wesleyan College/Northeastern Seminary faculty, staff, and students are free with a valid College ID.
