Women's Soccer Loses to Mount Vernon Nazarene in NCCAA East Region Semifinal

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (November 13, 2013) – The Women's Soccer team fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University, 4-0, this afternoon in an NCCAA East Region Semifinal game.

The visiting Redhawks were unable to stop a Cougars offense that produced 22 shots and 15 shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Marissa Sell was busy all day as she was credited with 11 saves.

Mount Vernon Nazarene scored their first goal just eight minutes into the game when Casey Apple connected on a cross from Megan Griffith, who assisted on all four goals for the Cougars.

The home team then scored against in the 37th minute before adding two more goals in the second half to seal the win.

For the Redhawks, freshman Bella Mitrevski put both of her shots on frame. After coming off the bench, both Briana Tata and Kristina Roberts each added a shot on goal.

Overall, the visitors put up a total of 11 shots and four shots on goal.

With the loss, Roberts Wesleyan finished the season 0-3-1 in road games against non-conference opponents. Overall the team wrapped up the year at 10-6-2, marking the fourth season the program has won at least 10 games or more.

With the win, Mount Vernon Nazarene will travel to take on top-seeded Houghton College this Saturday with the winner taking the East Region's automatic qualifying bid to the NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla.
