HOUGHTON, N.Y. (November 23, 2013) – Senior outside hitter
Corey Phillips recorded 18 kills to lead Roberts Wesleyan past Houghton in straight sets (25-22, 25-7, 25-15) to win the NCCAA East Region title.
Phillips and the rest of the Redhawks earn the East Region's automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships, which are in Kissimmee, Fla. from Dec. 5-7.
Both
Judy Schultz and
Kendall Havener each added 11 kills for the visitors as they each finished the match with a hitting percentage about .300. Â
Sophomore setter
Maggie Concannon finished the match with 44 assists while
Olivia Zureck tallied 27 digs.
Roberts Wesleyan has now defeated the Highlanders three times this season.
The Redhawks, who improve to 12-14 overall, will now wait to find out their seeding in the National Championships, which will take place at the Kissimmee Convention Center.
