Volleyball Cruises Past Mercy During Senior Night

Rochester, N.Y. (November 9, 2013) – Women's Volleyball picks up a win against Mercy this evening in NCAA action. (24-26, 25-20, 25-12, 25-17) This evenings game was also Roberts Senior Night, the Redhawks celebrated the lone senior Corey Phillips

Phillips has been a stand out player for the Redhawks for the past 5 years. In her freshman and sophomore year Corey stood out earning accolades in the NCCAA. Before her junior year Phillips was unable to play due to a knee injury, she continued to support her team as a co- captain. Last year Phillips was injured again in the 7th match of the season. Corey came back this year and has aided the team all around; she looks to become one of 11 players in RWC history to register over 1,000 kills in a career.

The game started out close; Mercy gained the first set against Roberts with a close 24-26 win, there were a total of 7 ties throughout the match and 4 lead changes. In the second set the Redhawks began to show dominance, allowing no lead changes. The Redhawks devastated the Mavericks in the third set, with a final set score of 25-12. Phillips lead the Redhawks in kills totaling 16 kills. Teammate's Judy Schultz and Kendall Havener also helped out offensively adding 13 and 14 kills respectively. Maggie Concannon also helped out earning a match high of 49 assists.

Roberts Defensive players worked hard to limit Mercy's scoring. Olivia Zureck Totaled 21 Digs this evening. Roberts totaled 12 assisted blocks as a team to Mercy's 4. In the fourth and final set (25-17) Roberts continued to work towards the win. As a team, Roberts totaled 18 kills in the set over Mercy's 8. The game ended with senior Corey Phillips rocketing the final kill.

The win advances Roberts Record to 8-14 Overall and 3-11 in the ECC. Roberts plays again at home this Tuesday November 12 at 7pm. The Redhawks face Houghton college in non- conference play.
