ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 6, 2013) – The Men's Basketball team picked up a 61-48 win over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College this evening in East Coast Conference action.
Senior guard Williams Kemp-Harris poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the Redhawks after going 7 of 8 from the field and 5 of 7 at the free-throw line.
The 19 point effort is the most for Kemp-Harris since he chipped in 14 points against the University of Bridgeport on Jan. 3.
In perhaps the most complete win of the season for Roberts Wesleyan, the home team was able to shut down the Spartans down the final stretch closing out the game with a 23-3 run over the last five minutes.
Both teams played well on the boards as each team hauled in 30 rebounds while the Redhawks committed just 13 turnovers compared to St. Thomas Aquinas' 16 turnovers.
Tyrel Dixon nearly earned a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds as
Mike Stone added 10 points.
Senior center
Brian Szczepanski also had a solid outing, scoring a season-best nine points after going 3 of 5 from the field and 3 of 5 at the line.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 40.8% from the field while holding the Spartans to just 34.6%. Both teams were poor from three-point range with Roberts Wesleyan going 2 of 9 as St. Thomas Aquinas was a mere 1 of 12.
The win improves the Redhawks to 7-14 overall and 4-9 in the East Coast Conference.
Up next for Roberts Wesleyan is a two-game road trip as they visit LIU Post on Saturday before heading to Dowling College on Monday.
