ERIE, Pa. (March 10, 2013) – The Men's Tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win at Mercyhurst University Saturday afternoon.
The Redhawks were led by
Charles Farres and
Sam Thorold who won a competitive first doubles match. After trailing the Lakers' Jorn van der Veer and Travis Beck 7-4, the duo rallied back to win 9-7.
That match set the tone for the rest of the day for the visitors as they managed to defeat the Atlantic Region's No. 9 team.
In singles action, Farres defeated Robert Rizea 6-2, 6-3 at third singles as Thorold won 6-0, 6-0 against Mauricio Canton Diaz in fourth singles.
The lone loss came at first singles as van der Veer edged
Beka Buchukuri 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
With the victory, the Redhawks improve to 12-3 on the year.
Roberts Wesleyan is off until Mar. 23 when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne College.
