Men's Lacrosse Edged by LIU Post in ECC Opener, 7-5

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 16, 2013) – The Men's Lacrosse team lost to LIU Post this afternoon, 7-5, in their East Coast Conference opener.

The game was the first ever meeting between the two programs and the first ever conference match-up for Roberts Wesleyan.

Sean Cone scored the game's first goal at 12:11 mark in the first period to give the visiting Redhawks a 1-0 lead before the Pioneers scored the next four goals before Brett Capps netted his first of two goals to make it a 4-2 game early in the third period.

Later in the third, the Redhawks got to within one goal after Tyler Kleehammer and Brett Capps scored to make it a 5-4 game.

LIU Post then scored two goals in the fourth period to extend the lead to 7-4 with goals from Octovio Bernabo and Matty Beccaris.

Freshman Dom Cianfarano then scored to make it 7-5 with 7:30 remaining, but the Pioneers were able to make their two-goal lead stand the rest of the way.

In goal, Matt Hamilton set a new program record after making 18 saves for the Redhawks as he faced a total of 43 shots.

The loss drops Roberts Wesleyan to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in the ECC.

The team is off until next Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to face conference opponent Chestnut Hill College for a 3:30pm game.
