Men's Tennis Season Ends at NCCAA National Championships

MOBILE, Ala. (May 9, 2013) – The Men's Tennis team ended a successful season at the NCCAA National Championships this week.

The Redhawks were unable to advance out of the first round after going 1-2 in their three Pool A matches.

On Tuesday, Roberts Weseyan split a pair of matches as they lost 5-0 to Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University to open the tournament. In their afternoon match, the Redhawks upended Indiana Wesleyan University 5-0.

In their final first round match, the Redhawks found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-1 loss to McMurry (Texas) University.  In that match, Julio Toledo and Jordan Sadowitz won at third doubles 9-8 (8-6) over the War Hawks' Preston Steblein and Cristiano Mendes.

Despite the Redhawks not being able to advance to the semifinals of the competitive tournament, the season was a success.

Head coach Tom Linhart guided the team to an overall record of 18-7 and 3-2 in their inaugural East Coast Conference season, placing them second in the final conference standings.

Freshman Charles Farres was a standout at third singles in his debut season. The Englishman was selected to the NCCAA All-American First Team was well as garnering ECC Rookie of the Year honors. Farres was a combined 45-13 in the regular season for the Redawks.
