Volleyball Opens Season on the Road Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (September 6, 2013) – The Volleyball team heads to Erie, Pa. for a pair of matches this Saturday to open the 2013 season.
 
The Redhawks travels to Gannon University to square-off with the hosts at 1pm before taking on Walsh (Ohio) University at 3pm.
 
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN (0-0-0/0-0-0 ECC)
Head coaches Jon & Kirsten Meyers are looking to build on a successful first season in the East Coast Conference where they finished third in the standings and compiled an overall record of 20-12.
 
The Redhawks lost several veteran offensive threats in Gisela Ocasio and Alexa Antoni to graduation, but have reloaded with several new recruits. Freshman outside hitters Ashley Roxburgh, Ariann Kazmierczak, and Anjali Thomson will join senior Corey Phillips as the team's primary scoring threats.
 
Jordan Wilson, a junior, was third on the team last year with 267 kills and led the team with a .289 hitting percentage.
 
Sophomore setter Maggie Concannon returns after earning ECC Rookie of the Year honors by recording 1,004 assists, leading the conference with 9.56 assists per set.
 
SCOUTING GANNON (0-0-0/0-0-0 PSAC)
Gannon's sights are set high after winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title in 2012. The Golden Knights were also picked as a contender for this years, placing third in the conference's pre-season poll.
 
Despite losing several of their top scorers due to graduation, the team still has plenty of talent. Returning sophomore Kayla Knickerbocker finished second on the squad in hitting percentage, second in assists, and third in blocks.
 
SCOUTING WALSH (0-0-0/0-0-0 GLIAC)
The Cavaliers, who were former American Mideast Conference foes, come into 2013 after going 11-15 overall and 8-10 in the top-heavy Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference a year ago.
 
On offense, senior outside hitter Krissy Sokol looks to lead Walsh after finishing second on the team with 229 kills while leading the Cavaliers with a .236 attack percentage.

Roberts Wesleyan makes their home debut next Wednesday, Sep. 11 at 7pm when they host Le Moyne College. The match is the annual 'BLACKOUT' event as fans are encourage to wear black.

The team continues their home stand when they host Bloomfield (N.J.) College next Friday and the College of St. Rose on Saturday.
